Ivan Merz (1896–1928)

Croatian layman, teacher and intellectual, Iván Merz dedicated his short life to the Christian formation of young people and the liturgical apostolate.
Biography
The experience of the First World War provoked in him a profound conversion and the decision to seek holiness. He studied in Vienna and Paris, earned his doctorate with research on the influence of liturgy on French literature and promoted Catholic Action in Croatia. He lived apostolic celibacy, communion with the Pope and an intense Eucharistic life until his death at the age of thirty-one.
