Hyacinth Odrowąż (1185–1257)

The national saint of the Poles, whose genuine name must have been Jacko or Jacek, was born in Prague, and studied at various universities until obtaining a doctorate in Law and Theology.
Biography
He was vicar general of the diocese of Krakow, but upon hearing Saint Dominic preach with words of fire, and witnessing his miracles, he decided to become a preaching friar and months later he headed north to found new Dominican convents. After forty years of apostolic journeys in which he traveled through Prussia, Sweden, Norway, part of Russia, Greece, Bulgaria and Hungary, he had to retreat due to the advance of the Tatars and died a holy death in his convent in Krakow.
