Jorge Häfner, priest and martyr (1900–1942)
martyr priest
German priest, Jorge Häfner died in Dachau after pastorally opposing Nazism and remaining faithful to his ministry.
Biography
Born in Würzburg, he was ordained in 1924 and served as chaplain and parish priest. He rejected the Nazi salute and sought to train his faithful according to the Gospel, for which he suffered surveillance and prohibitions. He was arrested in 1941 after reconciling a repentant Nazi leader with the Church before his death, a fact that provoked the wrath of the authorities. Deported without trial, he suffered hunger, illness and forced labor until he died, trusting in the will of God.
