One hundred and fifteen priests, religious and lay people from the diocese of Almería were murdered out of hatred for the faith during religious persecution in Spain.
Biography
The group is headed by José Álvarez-Benavides, dean of the cathedral and scholar of local history. Between 1936 and 1938, the martyrs were arrested and executed in different places for remaining identified with Christ and the Church. Priests, educators, workers, parents and young people faced death by praying, forgiving and encouraging their companions. Its diversity shows that Christian fidelity can be lived in every vocation.
