Martyrs

The vast majority of these blessed were born and died in towns in the Valencian provinces of Spain, where they suffered martyrdom during the Spanish civil war.

Biography

They were: José Aparicio Sanz and 36 more priests, 19 women and 18 young people from Catholic Action, 18 Dominican preaching friars, 2 priests from the diocese of Zaragoza included in the beatification process, 10 Franciscan friars minor, 12 Capuchin friars minor, 6 Capuchin nuns of the Order of Santa Clara, 12 Jesuits, 30 Salesians of Saint John Bosco, 2 Daughters of Mary Help of Christians nuns, 20 Capuchin tertiaries of Our Lady of Sorrows, a Dehonian priest, 6 brothers of the Christian Schools, 24 Carmelite nuns of Charity, a Servite nun, 8 Piarist nuns, a Claretian missionary, 2 little sisters of the Helpless Elderly and 3 Capuchin tertiaries of the Holy Family. Promoted by Archbishops Marcelino Olachea and José María Lahiguera, servant of God, as well as by the diocesan presbytery and the lay forum and by their respective religious orders, Valencia dedicated many human energies so that these processes could reach their conclusion and be an instrument of evangelization, especially in the fields of catechesis, youth ministry and vocational promotion. The beatification process reached its final point on March 11, 2001, when these 233 martyrs of religious persecution in Spain were beatified by John Paul II.
