Two Italian priests, José Bernardi and Mario Ghibaudo, died helping the population during the Boves massacre, at the beginning of the German occupation.
Biography
Priest Bernardi agreed to mediate to free two soldiers and avoid reprisals; Although he accomplished the mission, the troops burned the town. Mario, newly ordained and parish vicar, walked the streets giving absolution, helping the wounded and accompanying those who were fleeing. Both were able to seek refuge, but chose to remain with their people. They were murdered on September 19, 1943 in the fulfillment of their ministry.
