José de Igualada (1811–1871)
Founding Franciscan priest
Capuchin and Spanish founder, José Tous y Soler—known as José de Igualada—remained faithful to his vocation amid expulsions and political persecutions.
Biography
Ordained a priest, he had to live in exile in France and later exercise ministry outside the convent. In Barcelona she dedicated herself to spiritual direction and the Christian education of girls. He founded the Capuchins of the Mother of the Divine Shepherd to offer teaching and form solid homes, preserving the Franciscan spirit of poverty and trust even when everything seemed dark.
