José Oriol (1650–1702)
Priest
A Barcelona priest of humble origins, José Oriol obtained a doctorate in theology and served for fifteen years in the church of Santa María del Pino.
Biography
He lived with extreme austerity, dedicated his income to the poor and spent long hours in prayer and in the confessional. He visited the sick and was sought after for his charity, advice, and gifts of healing, although he avoided all ostentation. His penance never made him harsh: he treated everyone he met with kindness. Detached from goods and comforts, he made himself completely available to accompany the spiritual life of his people.
Practical advice
Reduce a voluntary comfort today and use the freed up time or money to visit a sick person.
