Josemaría Escrivá (1902–1975)

Priest and founder

Josemaría Escrivá was a Spanish priest who founded Opus Dei in 1928.

Biography

He taught that every baptized person is called to holiness and apostolate, and that ordinary work, family duties, friendship, rest, and civic life can become places of encounter with God. His message emphasized divine filiation, unity of life, freedom, love for the Eucharist and the Virgin Mary, and cheerful service to others. He traveled widely to encourage people to seek Christ in the middle of the world and to sanctify their work by doing it well and for love.

Practical advice

With simplicity and joy, offer a small act of affection to the Virgin Mary and try to imitate her readiness, remembering that holiness is built in ordinary life.
