John, Apostle and Evangelist
Apostle and Evangelist
John, son of Zebedee and brother of James, was called from his fishing nets to follow Jesus.
Biography
The Gospel presents the beloved disciple at the Last Supper, standing near the Cross, receiving Mary as mother, and running to the empty tomb. Christian tradition associates him with the Fourth Gospel, three letters, and Revelation. His writings contemplate the eternal Word made flesh and insist that genuine knowledge of God is shown in faith and love. John’s witness invites the Church to remain close to Christ and to proclaim what it has seen and heard.
