John Bosco (1815–1888)
Priest and founder
John Bosco is remembered as the saint of young people, workers, Christian joy, and Mary Help of Christians.
Biography
Born into a humble family in Piedmont, he received from his mother a deep Christian formation, love for the Virgin Mary, and respect for priests. Ordained in 1841, he devoted himself to abandoned boys, offering them a home, education, food, work training, and the warmth of a family. He formed them especially through the Eucharist and Reconciliation and always attributed the fruits of his ministry to Mary Help of Christians. To continue this mission, he founded the Salesians and, with Mary Mazzarello, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. Before his death, he saw his work spread to several nations.
Practical advice
When you have the opportunity, pray for a priest facing a difficulty, as one who works and prays beneath God’s loving gaze.
