Biography
Being a Spanish Carmelite religious, at the age of 25 he met Teresa de Jesús, who at that time undertook the reform of the Carmelite Order. He immediately wanted to return to the observance of the old rule, but met with violent resistance from his superiors. The only thing that those difficulties achieved was to sublimate his union with God in the heights of the mystical life, to which his writings and poetry bear witness. (1542-1591).
