John Duns Scotus (c. 1265–1308)

He was born near Melrose, Scotland, of noble family.
Biography
He is a famous doctor of philosophy (Scholasticism) and taught at Cambridge, Oxford, Paris and finally in Cologne, where he died. He is known for being the main person responsible for the belief in the Immaculate Conception. Regarding the monumental work of this master, Paul VI declared himself convinced that “this intellectual treasure contains the appropriate weapons to effectively combat contemporary atheism.”
