Juan José Lataste (1832–1869)
religious
French Dominican, Juan José Lataste discovered his mission by preaching spiritual exercises to women imprisoned in Cadillac.
Biography
As he contemplated his prayer, he understood that the past did not cancel his dignity or his call to holiness. She founded the Casa de Betania, a contemplative community where women released from prison could live as religious without being forever marked by their history. The Eucharist nourished his trust in mercy and his fight against prejudice. Although he died young, he left a work that proclaims that grace can open a true future after guilt.
