Biography
Bishop of Trent, John Nepomuceno de Tschiderer governed with evangelical ardor, simplicity and special attention to education and the poor. A priest since 1800, he was a teacher, parish priest in mountain communities and trainer of the clergy; He traveled long distances on foot to visit the sick and isolated families. As bishop he promoted schools, seminaries, missions and social aid, avoiding political prominence and divisions. In times of war and calamity he opened his resources to the population and remained close to his flock. His death certificate summed up his life: he loved Trento and was loved by Trentines.
