July 29
Julia (+303)
Widow
This Christian widow from Caesarea of Cappadocia, Türkiye, had owned great assets, but her administrator ruined her almost completely.
Biography
Julia decided to prosecute him and to defend herself, the administrator shouted in court: “This woman does not know about justice, because she is a Christian!” With Julia's speech taken away, the president of the court had an altar and incense brought. Faced with pressure to make sacrifices, Julia raised her voice and said: “May my body perish before I deny God, my Creator.” Condemned to be burned alive, she marched smiling to the stake. Julia's body is venerated in a church in Caesarea, and at the place of her torture, a fountain continues to flow and sometimes heals the sick.
