March 16

Julian of Anazarba (+325)

confessor of faith

He was born in the town of the same name, in the province of Cilicia (Asia Minor).

Biography

He was the son of a pagan senator and a Christian woman. When he was under paternal authority he had to hide his faith. But, when he came of age, he proclaimed himself a Christian with such force that the prefect Marcian arrested him, had him tortured and banished him for a year, exposed to the whim of pagans eager to outrage him. As after this time he persevered and did not want to apostatize, Marcian ordered him to be put in a sack full of vipers and scorpions and thrown into the sea. Saint John Chrysostom recounts his entire martyrdom. It took place under the rule of Licinius, emperor of the East, such a fierce enemy of the Christians that Constantine, his brother-in-law, had him assassinated in 325.

Practical advice

As an offering to the Lord, overcome human respect with a clean and brave word and start again with humility if it doesn't work out for you.
