Martyrs
The Roman martyrology, as recited by the monks of the Church for four centuries, until 1970, narrates the following: “In Constantinople the impious emperor Leo ordered the torture and beheading of the holy martyrs Julian, Marcian and eight others for having placed the image of the Savior in the Bronze Gate.” León was responsible for the long and bloody iconoclastic persecution.
