Lazarus the Iconographer (+866)

Saint Lazarus the Iconographer (+866) He was an icon-painting monk in Constantinople in the time of the iconoclast Theophilus.

Biography

As punishment for his activity, he was ordered to be thrown into a sewer. Lázaro left there and continued painting. The emperor had the palm of his hands burned, but the Empress Theodora secretly cured him. During her regency, upon the death of Theophilus, Theodora put an end to the dispute over the images that had lasted a century. Lazarus received the mission to bring the good news to the pope.
