Biography
Italiano, the son of a coastal captain, became a Franciscan at the age of twenty-one, began preaching at the age of thirty, and preached every day of his life from then on. He was considered the greatest missionary of his time. To help souls meditate on the sufferings of the Savior, he erected numerous Via Crucis. Thanks to his idea, this pious custom spread throughout all the churches of the Latin rite.
