Pope and martyr
He is the first successor of Saint Peter, being Pope from 67 to 76.
Biography
He was born in Volterra. He was the first to collect the inheritance of St. Peter in a Church that was still underground and in formation. He opposed the doctrine of "Menander, a disciple of Simon Magus who fought against Christianity by not recognizing the power of miracles. Perhaps he appointed the first fifteen bishops, who administered the sacraments and had the function of control over various Christian communities.
Priests and Deacons helped the bishops in the performance of sacred functions and in assisting the poor. He ordered that women enter the sacred places and watch the functions with their heads covered. During his pontificate the Evangelists Mark and Luke were martyred (70). Lino suffered martyrdom in the year 76. He was buried next to St. Peter, in the first crypt.
