January 8
Lorenzo Justinian (1381–1455)
Bishop
Of noble birth, Lorenzo was in his early youth an inquisitive and lavish knight who dazzled the city of Venice.
Biography
Converted by a vision of the Virgin, he returned to religious life, to the harshest ascetic practices and to go around his hometown dressed in esparto grass, with a cross on his back, begging for the poor. Much against his will, he was elected bishop and later patriarch of Venice. He is remembered for having known how to combine contemplative life and his role of command, mysticism and action.
Practical advice
During this day, prudently fulfill a responsibility that others have entrusted to you and end with a brief thanksgiving.
