Luciano Botovasoa, martyr (1908–1947)
Martyr
A teacher, husband and father of eight children in Madagascar, Luciano Botovasoa was a catechist, musician and member of the Franciscan Third Order.
Biography
His faith, humility and service gave him great moral authority in Vohipeno. During the political violence of 1947 he rejected both hatred and the possibility of saving himself through betrayal. He was arrested and condemned by local leaders who saw his Christian testimony as an obstacle. Before being executed, he forgave his executioners and asked for his conversion, calmly offering his life.
