Louis of Casoria (1814–1885)
Franciscan religious missionary
An Italian Franciscan born Archangel Palmentieri, Luis de Casoria was a professor of chemistry, mathematics and physics before decisively directing his life to the service of the poor and sick.
Biography
He created an infirmary for friars, promoted works for African children rescued from slavery and wanted to prepare them as evangelizers of their own people under the motto "Africa will convert Africa." He founded the Brothers of Charity and the Elisabetine Franciscan Sisters. His missionary zeal sought to form protagonists, not passive recipients, uniting science, education and Franciscan charity.
