Macarius of Alexandria (310–408)
confessor of faith
Until he was 40, he was a candy maker and fruit seller.
Biography
The pastry chefs have him as their Patron. Following the vocation that God made him discover, Macario went to the desert to pray and do penance and spent almost 60 years sanctifying himself there. When they asked him who he was, he answered that he was “a happy man,” because that is what his name means, and that is how he felt, serving the Lord day and night.
Practical advice
Trusting in God's grace, be grateful for the simple joy of the day without seeking applause or recognition.
