Macarius the Great
Priest, abbot, and Desert Father
A fourth-century Egyptian ascetic, he was a priest and guide to the monks of the Desert of Scetis.
Biography
Through his life, he taught humility, abstinence, and total self-giving to God; he is distinct from Macarius of Alexandria.
Practical advice
Practice one small abstinence today so that the body does not rule the soul.
