Malachi (1094–1148)
Bishop
He helped restore Connor Abbey which had been destroyed by the Viking invasion, he became Archbishop of Armagh.
Biography
He suffered many persecutions from the nobles who wanted to appropriate the property of the Church. In 1139 he left for Rome, stopping in Clairvaux at the house of his friend Saint Bernard. Malachy begged the Pope to let him leave office, in order to go live as a monk in Clairvaux, to which the Pope responded by naming him papal legate and head of the Church of Ireland. Malachy displayed tireless activity, turning his country into one of the most religious in Christendom.
