Mamerto Esquiú (1826–1883)

Franciscan and Argentine bishop, Mamerto Esquiú served national reconciliation through preaching, education and an austere life.
Biography
He was a professor, missionary and also a public representative in Catamarca, where he defended the constitutional organization as a way to overcome divisions. After years of ministry in Argentina and Bolivia, he was named bishop of Córdoba. He visited communities, trained seminarians, promoted popular missions and personally cared for the poor, always preserving the simplicity of a minor friar.
