Manuel González-Serna Rodríguez and 19 fellow martyrs (+1936)
Martyrs
Twenty Catholics from the archdiocese of Seville – ten priests and ten lay people – were murdered out of hatred for the faith during the religious persecution of 1936.
Biography
The group was led by Manuel González-Serna Rodríguez, parish priest of Constantine, executed in the sacristy of his church. Among his companions were seminarians, husbands, workers and women committed to parish life. During the prison they prayed, confessed, encouraged each other and expressed their forgiveness to the executioners. The destruction of temples and images did not destroy the communion they had built around the Eucharist.
Practical advice
If a community difficulty arises, encourage others today and avoid all words of revenge.
