April 6
Marcellin (†413)
Bishop
Saint Augustine praised this high Roman official who became his friend.
Biography
Emperor Honorius sent him to Carthage to put an end to the Donatist schism that was degenerating into civil war. Aided by the advice of the bishop of Hippo, Marcellin dedicated himself to his work with exemplary impartiality and wisdom. The Donatists decided to murder him, but he had already completed his work and that late crime did not prevent them from disappearing without a trace. He was a very cultured man: Saint Augustine wrote several works to answer the questions that Marcellin asked himself and made him read the chapters of The City of God as he wrote them.
Practical advice
Trusting in God's grace, thank you for the good received through the sacraments, putting the result in God's hands.
