Marcelo Spínola y Maestre (1835–1906)
Founding cardinal
Spanish cardinal, founder and pastor of the poor, Marcelo Spínola began as a lawyer and offered his services free of charge to those who could not pay.
Biography
Ordained priest, he was parish priest, bishop of Malaga and archbishop of Seville. She founded the Conceptionist Slaves of the Divine Heart and promoted education and good press. During a serious crisis he personally went out to ask for help for those in need, for which he was called "the beggar archbishop." His ecclesial authority was marked by humility, closeness and a charity without appearances.
