Mark, traditionally identified with John Mark in the Acts of the Apostles, accompanied early Christian missionaries and was closely associated with Peter.
Biography
His Gospel presents Jesus with vividness and urgency, emphasizing his deeds, his authority, and the mystery of the Cross. Ancient Christian testimony regarded Mark as Peter’s interpreter, preserving the Apostle’s preaching for the Church. Tradition also connects him with the Church of Alexandria. Through his written Gospel, Mark continues to lead readers to the decisive question of Jesus’ identity and to the courageous discipleship that follows from confessing him as the Son of God.
