Margaret of Scotland (1045–1093)

Secular

Patroness of Scotland, this queen belonged to the English royal family, but when they were fleeing from the Normans who invaded the country, a storm took the ship to the coast of Scotland, where they stayed to live in the palace of King Malcolm III, who would soon fall in love and marry the young Margaret.

Biography

They had six sons and two daughters, and in the rather barbaric court of this king, hunter and warrior, Margaret's life was far from easy. He had a persevering effort to civilize that rude and isolated Scotland, from civility at the table to the sweetening of customs, the increase in piety and generous almsgiving. Her holiness lies in turning the daily life of wife, mother and queen into a selfless and discreet service to God and those around her.

Practical advice

Without seeking recognition, fulfill one of your family duties with love, doing everything for the love of God.
