Margarita María López de Maturana (1884–1934)
Mercedarian missionary nun
Spanish Mercedarian nun, Margarita María López de Maturana transformed a contemplative community into a missionary congregation to bring the Gospel to distant towns.
Biography
Born as Pilar along with a twin sister, she entered the Berriz monastery and first worked as an educator. The news of the missions awakened a call in her that she shared with the entire community. Overcoming canonical and cultural difficulties, he promoted foundations in China, Japan and the Pacific Islands and gave rise to the Mercedarias Misioneras of Berriz.
