Biography
An Italian nun born Constanza Troiani, Maria Catherine left the Ferentino monastery to serve as a missionary in Egypt. In Cairo she educated girls and cared for slaves, the sick, abandoned newborns and poor families, without distinguishing between Catholics, Orthodox or Muslims. She founded the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to continue this work. Although she wanted to live hidden and subordinate, she accepted difficult responsibilities when charity demanded it. Its mission united audacity, humility and respect towards people of different religions.
