María Celeste Crostarosa (1696–1755)

Founding nun

Italian contemplative nun and founder of the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer, María Celeste Crostarosa wanted her communities to be a "living memory" of the love of Christ.

Biography

Born in Naples as Julia Crostarosa, she first joined the Carmelites and then the monastery of Scala. There he wrote a rule focused on reproducing the life of the Redeemer, a project that matured amid misunderstandings with the help of Saint Alphonsus Maria de Ligorio.
