Founder of the Franciscan Hospitaller Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, María Clara del Niño Jesús turned her family losses into compassion for those in need.
Biography
Orphaned at a young age, she discerned religious life when Portuguese laws prevented many forms of consecration. After training in France, he returned to Lisbon and organized a new congregation dedicated to the sick, poor, orphans and homeless people. Their communities spread throughout Portugal, Africa and Asia. He faced slander and internal difficulties with serenity, forgiveness and unwavering trust in Providence.
