The first saint of Mexico, María was born in a ranch in Zapotlanejo, Jalisco.
Biography
In her parish she dedicated herself to teaching catechism to children and was highly appreciated by the parish priest and her fellow catechists. She decided on religious life and dedicated herself to nursing. From 1905 to 1921, “Mother Nati,” as she was called, worked at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Guadalajara. She was elected superior general of the Congregation, which she served for 33 years. He created 14 foundations and hospitals for poor patients throughout the Mexican Republic, as vocations were increasing. She was an extraordinary nun for her charity and compassion, who gave herself to the sick with all her soul. He ruled with firmness and love, and died in the odor of holiness on July 30, 1959. His relics are venerated in the Hospital of the Sacred Heart of Guadalajara. She was canonized by John Paul II on March 21, 2000.
