Founder of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, Mary of the Passion of Chappotin promoted a contemplative, missionary religious life committed to the dignity of women.
Biography
Born Elena de Chappotin in France, she first sought the Poor Clare life and was later sent to India with Mary Reparatrix. The difficulties of the mission led twenty nuns to form a new institute approved by Pius IX in 1877. From Rome she promoted international communities, Eucharistic adoration, educational works and defense of women. He governed through trials with a Franciscan spirit and love for the Church.
