Maria Dominga Mazzarello (1837–1881)

Founding Salesian nun

Born in Mornese, Italy to poor and ignorant peasant parents, Saint Mary became the founder of what is today the second largest female religious community in the world: the Community of Salesian Sisters.

Biography

She was always a hard-working and apostolic girl, and together with a group of her friends, she dedicated herself to teaching doctrine to children. When Don Bosco learned about these girls, he also decided to found schools for women and asked Maria Mazzarello to be the superior. She resisted, since she had not even finished primary school, but she obeyed and was a magnificent superior until the day she died.

Practical advice
