Biography
An Italian nun known as “the holy nun,” María Luisa Velotti transformed a childhood of orphanhood and abuse into a life of adoration and service. She professed in the Third Franciscan Order and, after several community experiences, founded the Institute of the Adorers of the Holy Cross in 1868. She accompanied young people seeking consecration, opened a school for girls and offered her prolonged illnesses in union with the crucified Christ. Her simplicity, Eucharistic life and maternal charity attracted many people until her death in Casoria.
