Benedictine Abbess
Italian Benedictine abbess, Maria Luisa Prosperi combined an intense contemplative life with prudent service to her community and the poor.
Biography
Born Gertrudis Prosperi, she entered the monastery of Santa Lucia in Trevi at the age of twenty. She faced physical and spiritual trials, mystical experiences and increasing responsibilities until she was elected abbess in 1837. She renewed the observance of the rule by example, took care of the training of the nuns and intelligently ordered the administration of the monastery. His constant criterion was not to seek his own will, but to accept that of God.
