Mary Magdalene of the Incarnation (1770–1824)
Founding Franciscan Abbess
Founder of the Perpetual Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament, Mary Magdalene of the Incarnation wanted the Church to remain day and night before Jesus the Eucharist.
Biography
Born Catalina Sordini, she renounced a marriage arranged by her father and entered a Franciscan monastery. In 1789 he was inspired to found a community dedicated to perpetual adoration. As abbess she wrote the rule and opened a house in Rome. Napoleonic laws expelled her, but she reunited the sisters and obtained pontifical approval of the institute in 1818.
