María Pilar Gullón, Octavia Iglesias and Olga Pérez-Monteserín, laywomen and martyrs (+1936)
Martyrs
Three young Spanish lay people and Red Cross volunteer nurses gave their lives while caring for the wounded during the Civil War.
Biography
María Pilar Gullón Yturriaga, Octavia Iglesias Blanco and Olga Pérez-Monteserín Núñez left the safety of their families to provide health services near the Asturian front. Captured in October 1936, they were threatened and mistreated, but they retained their faith and dignity. On October 28 they were murdered in Pola de Somiedo after proclaiming Christ King. His charity did not ask about the side of the sick before caring for them.
