María Teresa de Jesús Gerhardinger (1797–1879)

Bavarian educator, María Teresa de Jesús Gerhardinger founded the Scholastic Sisters of Our Lady to renew the training of girls, especially in rural and poor areas.
Biography
From the age of twelve she trained as a teacher and, faced with the closure of religious schools caused by political changes, she persevered until opening new educational communities. She trained teachers capable of combining academic excellence, faith and personal attention. Her congregation spread throughout Europe and America, convinced that the education of women strengthens families and entire societies.
