María Teresa de San José (1855–1938)
Carmelite nun
Practical advice
Unite prayer and service today: after speaking with God, personally attend to a nearby need.
Biography
A German nun born into a Lutheran family, Ana María Tauscher embraced Catholicism and founded the Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus. The attention that her mother gave to the poor and sick awakened in her an early charity. His conversion caused family misunderstandings and the loss of his job, but he discovered a vocation that united Carmelite prayer and apostolic service. He opened homes for abandoned children and the elderly and spread the congregation to several countries. As María Teresa de San José taught, union with God must become concrete welcome and care.
