Maria Troncatti (1883–1969)
Salesian nun
An Italian Salesian nun, María Troncatti was a nurse, catechist and spiritual mother of the Shuar people and settlers in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Biography
She joined the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and served as a nurse during the First World War. In 1922 he left for Ecuador, where for almost half a century he cared for the sick, performed emergency surgeries, trained women, taught the faith and promoted peace between warring groups. Her house was open to all and her service combined professional competence and maternal tenderness. He died in a plane crash while traveling to promote reconciliation in his community.
