Mariano Arciero (1707–1788)
missionary priest
An Italian priest of peasant origin, Mariano Arciero learned Christian doctrine as a child and began to teach it very early.
Biography
He worked intensively in Calabria and Naples as a preacher, catechist and trainer of the clergy. His familiarity with the Holy Scripture was so great that it was called "Christ's library." He lived poorly, assisted those in need and tried to make the people understand the faith. He was known as the "apostle of Calabria" for combining missionary zeal, doctrinal clarity and exemplary priestly life.
