March 3
Marino and Asterio (+262)
Martyrs
Marinus served in the legion garrisoned in Caesarea, capital of Roman Palestine.
Biography
He was about to be named a centurion thanks to his military skills. However, the regulations prescribed that, before receiving the position, the aspirant must make a sacrifice to the gods. Marino refused to do so. The court declared him sentenced to death, after three hours of reflection, and he was beheaded. As for Asterius, he suffered the same fate for having buried his companion.
