Nineteen Catholic priests and religious were martyred in the Netherlands for defending the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and communion with the Pope.
Biography
Captured at Gorcum during the religious and political struggles of 1572, they suffered imprisonment, ridicule, and ill-treatment. They were offered freedom if they denied those truths of faith, but they remained united to the Church despite their differences in age, character, and religious order. They were finally hanged at Brielle on July 9.
